FNAC Procedures

At Elite Diagnostics, we offer Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC), a quick, minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose various medical conditions. FNAC is a highly effective diagnostic tool for evaluating lumps, masses, or abnormal growths in the body, ensuring early detection and accurate diagnosis of potential health concerns.

What is FNAC?

FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) involves using a thin, fine needle to extract a small sample of cells or fluid from a specific area of the body, such as lymph nodes, thyroid, breast, or soft tissues. The collected sample is then analyzed under a microscope to identify abnormalities, infections, or diseases.

Why is FNAC Recommended?

Doctors may recommend FNAC for:

  • Lump or Mass Evaluation: To determine if a lump is benign or malignant.
  • Diagnosis of Infections: Identifying the cause of infections or inflammations.
  • Thyroid Nodules: Evaluating nodules or abnormalities in the thyroid gland.
  • Swollen Lymph Nodes: Checking for infections, cancers, or other conditions.
  • Breast Abnormalities: Investigating suspicious breast lumps.

How is FNAC Performed?

  • Preparation: No special preparation is typically required. You may need to inform the doctor of any medications you are taking.
  • The Procedure:
    • A fine needle is inserted into the lump or mass under sterile conditions.
    • Cells or fluid are gently aspirated using a syringe.
    • Ultrasound or imaging guidance may be used for precise targeting.
  • Duration: The procedure is quick, usually lasting 10–20 minutes.
  • Post-Procedure: Most patients can resume normal activities immediately.

Benefits of FNAC

  • Quick and Painless: A simple outpatient procedure with minimal discomfort.
  • Accurate Diagnosis: Provides reliable information for effective treatment planning.
  • No Scarring: Unlike surgical biopsies, FNAC leaves no visible marks.
  • Low Risk: Minimally invasive with a very low risk of complications.
